Mn Lawn Care Tips – Great Lawns In Minnesota Start With Early Care

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Everybody has seen it.  It doesn’t take an expert to drive through a neighborhood and spot the house that obsesses on their yard (in fact, it might be they do!) and the house that only mows when the city is knocking on their door.  In Minnesota, most people get excited when the snow starts to melt and the grass starts getting green.  So, what should you do to give your lawn a head start?  You do want a beautiful lawn without devoting your entire summer to it, right?

A lot of people suggest getting your lawn ready for spring before the first snowfall…but of course time gets away from a lot of people.  So, here are some tips for those who weren’t able to find time to baby their yard before the snow came.

1. When most of the snow has melted, get your wheelbarrow out and start picking up the debris left behind from the fall and anything the snowplows may have thrown into your lawn.  You will want to get your rake out so that you get all of the twigs, branches, leaves, etc. that are in the yard.  (This will also make it easier to mow when it comes time for that!)

An Introduction To Burglar Alarms

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Security should be one of the most important considerations for your home. Why fill your home with your personal effects and decorate it if the home can be so easily burgled? It makes more sense to have a security system fitted that will deter intruders and send them elsewhere.

This article is designed to give you an idea of the sort of intruder alarm protection you will need in a private house. It does not replace the advice of a professional Security Surveyor or System Designer from a reputable security installer. The article will give you a degree of understanding and help you to discuss your homes security with a security professional.

Christie Intruder Alarms (CIA) consider that the best way to protect residential property is by using trap protection. Trap protection is a strategy for protecting a property without fitting sensors in every room.

Statistics show that villains rarely break in through windows at the front of a house. They are even less likely to stay in one room and leave through the same front window; they are more likely to go straight to the master bed room. So fitting sensors in the rear rooms of the house and in the hallway is often considered sufficient for the ground floor.

Also as kitchens have heat sources (boilers, fridges, ovens, washing machines and such) and hard surfaces, they are generally considered unstable areas and rarely contain items of value. Therefore, as a rule, a kitchen should not be protected with PIR.

Through our 35+ years of experience, we have learnt that even dual technology detectors are unsuitable for kitchens, as the microwave motion sensor will detect movement through glass, thin walls and will even be triggered by water moving in pipes.

There are various reasons for adopting a trap protection strategy. The first is to limit the false alarm potential of a system and the more detectors a property has, the higher the false alarm potential. All detectors (even the top of the range ones that CIA use) sometimes false alarm. These false alarms are becoming increasingly onerous due to the new hard line that Police Forces are taking regarding attendance. False alarms result in withdrawn Police attendance.

Another important factor is cost – using a good quality sensor would make it expensive to protect each room.

As external alarm boxes are a good deterrent, just having an alarm system installed by a recognized intruder alarm installer should deter most villains, whether they are opportunists or professionals. After all, burglars do not know whether or not your system is monitored by a central station who will alert the Police in the instance of an alarm – it is easier for them to go next door or somewhere that does not have an alarm system.

Burglar Alarms

Burglars, and indeed any intruders, are overwhelmingly deterred by a burglar alarm (or, as we say in the trade, an intruder alarm) more than any other form of home security. It is better to take preventative measures as opposed to the “shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted”. You are far more likely to be burgled if you have been burgled before. Villains are renowned for returning to the same properties.

Break-ins are an unfortunate fact of life. Being broken into in a residential property is obviously more distressing than a burglary in the work place and although vandalism is rare, the loss of sentimental artefacts can be most upsetting.

As the Number One security installer in the South of England, Christie Intruder Alarms (CIA) use a combination of detection devices. The most popular devices are the PIR (Passive Infra-Red) detectors, magnetic reed contacts, breaking glass detectors, infra-red beams, pressure pads, case wiring, vibration detectors and dual technology sensors (sensors that combine Passive Infra-Red with Microwave or Ultrasonic detection).

Always choose a company that has been awarded the prestigious NSI NACOSS Gold Medal. The Gold Medal is only awarded to companies who consistently deliver an outstanding performance in security management.

NSI is an acronym of the National Security Inspectorate. Formerly known as NACOSS, the NSI is an independent, not-for-profit approvals body providing inspection services for the security and fire industries.

Adio Skate Shoes: a Brief History

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

The Adio skate shoes are a fairly recent addition. They were starting to be produced in the year 1998 by skate shoes exect.

The owner of Planet Earth Skate Boards, who happened to be a retired professional skater himself, was Chris Miller. They, like many others, had been making skate board, but were more expensive than those from overseas and so they, again like many others, decided to focus on skate shoes since they couldn’t easily compete with the cheap labor and cheaper products of the rest of the world after the early 90s were over.

The pronunciation of the Adio skate shoes is just what it seems to be, audio. The Adio shoes company specializes in men’s skate shoes as well as women’s skate shoes; however they do make a few sandals as well as designer trainers. There are several professional models of Adio skate shoes and designer shoes that are now on the market. A few of the people who have designed these shoes are Kenny Anderson, Ed Selego, Jeremy Wray, and also Bram Margera.

The Adio skate shoes come in a wide variety of sizes, colors, and designs. They have been designed by a number of different people and are some of the better quality skate shoes that you can get today. If you are looking for actual skate shoes you can look at the different options for either men’s skate shoes or women’s skate shoes. However if you are not looking for Adio skate shoes just yet you can get sandals for those hot summer days or designer trainer shoes to fit your needs. They too are offered by the Adio shoe company. Now if you have a kid that likes skateboarding you can give them the great quality Adio skate shoes that are made specifically for kids.

As said before there is a large variety of designs and colors for the Adio skate shoes. You can get lace –up shoes that are black, white a combination, black with skulls, black and blue, black and pink, black and red brown and red and so on and so forth. If you aren’t interested in lace up Adio skate shoes then you can get various patterns of slip on shoes like the opal white turquoise scatter that they offer, or maybe the opal black gum slip-ons that they offer. If you are looking for your kids instead you can get a different variety of shoes starting at sizes for toddlers. They designs like the simple upper with a cupsole that comes in colors like black and white, or designs like eva midsoles with grippy rubber outsoles including flex grooves in certain areas and full length poly. They even have a tongue that has a centering strap to continue to make things easier.

If you are looking to buy Adio skate shoes then there are several options. For one thing you can shop online and have it delivered either to your house or to a store, and if you would rather, you can look in the stores near you for the designs you are after, or maybe order some through a store.

5HTP Side Effects

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

5HTP is a natural supplement used to treat depression, sleep disorders and overeating. 5HTP has shown itself to be generally safe during the past forty years of scientific testing and seems to be tolerated better by a larger number of people than its pharmaceutical cousins, the SSRI antidepressants like Prozac and Paxil.

Of course, nothing is completely without side effects so anyone taking 5HTP needs to be alert to the possible side effects.

5HTP has been tested enough to reveal a distinct pattern of side effects. The most common side effect of 5HTP treatment is intestinal or stomach upset. This is because about 90% of the serotonin in your body is actually not in your brain, but in your intestines.

Among other things, serotonin helps regulate the involuntary contractions of the intestines, called peristalsis, which flush waste through your system. Your intestines are loaded with serotonin so any changes in levels can affect this entire process.

Specifically which digestive side effects you might experience by taking 5HTP will depend on your personal state of health. Anything within the gamut of digestive system complaints could occur, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, cramping, even vomiting. Some people report this side effect being less severe, or even disappearing completely, if they take their 5HTP with a meal.

About 3 to 5% of people who take 5HTP report digestive-related side effects. They can range from mild to severe.

Digestive disturbances due to 5HTP treatment are most likely to be extreme with people who already have chronic digestive disorders. So if you suffer with irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease, celiac sprue, ulcers or any among a long list of digestive problems, perhaps 5HTP treatment is not a good option for you. Please consult with a health care practitioner in your area.

Another reported side effect with 5HTP is vivid dreams, sometimes escalating to nightmares. This side effect occurs because dreaming and sleep depend heavily on serotonin. 5HTP and sleep go together like a chilly night and a goose-down comforter. This is why 5HTP treatment is so helpful for people with sleep disorders. 5HTP can help set the serotonin level back to a healthy level for better sleep.

On the flip side, because the biological process of sleep is delicate, 5HTP might cause your sleep to become disrupted. Everyone is different in this regard and while some enjoy extreme dreams, others find it upsetting. Often, people report that their dreams return to normal once their body adjusts to having a higher level of 5HTP and serotonin. Rarely, people choose to stop taking 5HTP because this side effect bothers them.

As you would expect, digestive disturbances and vivid dreams are both commonly reported side effects with all treatments that affect serotonin levels, such as the SSRI antidepressants, like Prozac or Paxil.

For best protection against side effects when taking 5HTP, start with a low dosage, such as 50mg or less once per day, and increase gradually. Sometimes it’s advisable to give your body periodic breaks from taking 5HTP. Taking breaks can lower the incidence of side effects too. Some people experience relief from side effects if they take 5HTP with meals.

The incidence of side effects from 5HTP is lower than it is with many other medicines. This is because 5HTP is a pure substance found already in the body. It isn’t a complex substance with many components that break down, spread throughout the body and wreck unintended havoc. 5HTP functions in the body in a relatively straight forward manner.

The same can’t be said for other most other medicines. Virtually every medicine known has some components that are beneficial and others that aren’t. It’s these unwanted components that lead to unpleasant side effects. The more pure a medicinal molecule is, the easier the body can assimilate it and this fact is to the benefit of anyone taking 5HTP.

When compared to the number of people who find the side effects of treatment objectionable, 5HTP generally fares better than its pharmaceutical counterparts. For example, in a study conducted by researcher Dr. H. M. van Praag, only 3% of the study group taking 5HTP quit, while 9% of the group receiving an SSRI left the study.

All medicines produce side effects people find intolerable, it’s to be expected. The question isn’t IF people don’t like the treatment, it’s how many people object to the point of discontinuation? With 5HTP, the answer is generally less than with comparable treatments.

All in all, 5HTP side effects are minimal or nonexistent for most people. The vast majority of people who take 5HTP report a positive experience. Dr. L.J. van Hiele, who has been one of the leading researchers of 5HTP, reported, “no contraindications or significant side effects in our series of tests…follow-ups of the blood pressure, living function, urine and EEG’s revealed no anomalies.”

Of course, this generally positive news does not negate the fact that some people find 5HTP side effects intolerable. All medications should be judged by weighing the benefits against the risks. Only you can determine where the line is right for you.
